Short-term residency for artists & creatives based in Finland

Luova tauko offers creative and cultural professionals based in Finland the time and space to delve into the basis of their being and their creative practice. Individuals from a range of experience and differing backgrounds are invited to slow down and drop into a deeper state of presence, where the precious core of creativity resides.

Freedom
Participants have the freedom to fully focus on the current state of their creative practice and whatever it may call for: research, writing, planning, exploration, experimentation, execution… Therefore, project plans are not required.

No Wi-Fi
In order for residents to better direct their attention to the immediate nature of their experience during the residency, there is no Wi-Fi (internet access is still available via a USB stick connection). Additionally, residents are asked to keep their cell phone usage to a minimum by either turning their phones on silent or off completely during their stay.

About us
Arteles Creative Center has been organizing thematic retreats and residencies to bring together diverse groups of international creatives in Hämeenkyrö since 2010. More than 1000 artists from over 50 different countries have participated in our programs.

(All participants are given accommodation and studio space in the Nexus 9000 building)

grocery trips (1 x week. The closest grocery store is 7km from the center)

wood-burning sauna (2 x week)
meditation / yoga hall with matts, cushions & benches
rowing boat on the lake nearby
bicycles
pick-up service for arrivals and departures (from/to Hämeenkyrö, if needed)

Fees

The residency fee is 670 € / person (incl. tax).
Selected participants are expected to cover their own cost of living, as well as travel and any material expenses.

Amount of participants

The number of selected participants will vary according to the COVID-19 situation's developments. We currently anticipate only 3 to 6 residents will be invited per res period.

Who can apply

We welcome creatives working across all cultural fields to apply, including but not limited to: architects, artists, art directors, curators, designers, illustrators, performers, poets, photographers, researchers, scientists, writers...
Please note that guests, children or pets are not permitted at the residency.

Applicant requirements:

Only individuals based in Finland can apply (Finnish nationality is not required)
Must be at least 23 years or older

What is expected from our residents:

Arteles Creative Center is a creative community committed to supporting the development of the individual towards embodying their most free and creative self. It is essential that an atmosphere of trust and respect is upheld by each of our residents. Therefore, we expect residents to follow these policies:

Keep noise to a minimum, especially between the hours of 23:00-8:00
Use headphones when listening to music or working with sound
Respect fellow residents' peace and privacy
If consuming alcohol, do so responsibly
Follow the COVID Safety Guidelines

Application, deadline and selections

The application can be filled in Finnish or English.
Incomplete applications or applications sent via email will not be taken into consideration.

The selections will be done by the 10 of May 2021.
